We’ve created a full calendar of free and low-cost activities, events, and learning and volunteer opportunities specifically designed for adults with special needs. With multiple activities scheduled each day, there’s always something happening. Click on any event in the calendar for complete details.

For weather-related updates, cancellations, and additional activity announcements, be sure to join our Facebook group, Frederick Self Directed Services. Look for the daily What’s on the Cool Kids Calendar post, posted by our Activities Director, Debby Spielman, every morning. Many of our Cool Kid families have come to rely on her daily post which highlights not only our Maryland Cool K!ds sponsored activities, but activities hosted by our community partners, as well as other events and opportunities we think you’ll enjoy.

MMA

MMA for Adults with Developmental Disabilities at Groundswell on Wednesdays: This is a large group activities-based class that incorporates mixed martial arts skills into energetic games and fitness-oriented activities. This class is suited for individuals who do not have sensory/auditory sensitivities. They offer a sensory friendly class on Fridays. Membership fees required. The first class is free to try out.

BASKETBALL

Special Needs pickup basketball at the Scott Key Center Gym on Thursdays, sponsored by Frederick County Parks and Rec. ($2 cost)

LET THERE BE ROCK

Let There Be Rock School hosts a Special Needs Adult music class for The Cool Kids  on the first and third Tuesday of the month. The first class is free to try out. After that, a $50 registration fee is required as well as a $20 monthly fee for the classes. ($10 per class)
